Misele’s guides and employees are, without reservation, the best in the business.
Our hiring philosophy looks for a range of criteria, from experience in the field, language proficiency, professionalism, integrity, and enthusiasm. At Misele we have passionate people who care about what they do.
All of our safari guides have basic training in mechanics. This is a useful skill to understanding how to reduce emissions (and for immediate roadside assistance).
Vehicle maintenance and inspection performed before and after every trip. All safari vehicles receive 50-point inspection before departure to ensure they are running optimally to keep fuel efficiency. Air, oil and fuel filters are changed according to schedule. Tires are checked regularly to reduce surface to tire friction.
Drivers must adhere to specified driving techniques. Good driving habits can reduce fuel usage by as much as 30%. Drivers must be efficient by maintaining steady speeds, accelerate evenly and slowly, and reduce sudden starts and stops. Our drivers are rated for fuel efficiency and receive bonuses for good driving.
All safari vehicles are 4×4 LandRovers – the most reliable all-terrain beasts that exist to date. Openable roofs on all safari vehicles can be lifted within the national parks for better animal viewing.
A guide-centered company
Reggie – Co-Founder, director, mechanic, certified safari guide. He is fluent in English, Spanish, Swahili, and Kiiraqw. With 15 years experience in the field, he has a natural sense for tracking animals…or getting tracked by animals. In November 2010 he had a face-to-face encounter with a female lion in Ngorongoro Crater. Outside of the vehicle Reggie unwittingly walked up to a large tree next to a lake and put his hand on the trunk, not knowing that 1 meter above his head was a lioness in the lower branches. Ask him how his life was spared (different people who witness the event have differing theories), and what other animals he’s met in some interesting situations.
Trained as a mechanic since the age of 18, he can overhaul engines and gearboxes and fix just about anything car related. His freedom is found on the road, sharing with people from all walks of life.
Left to become the head of his family at a young age, his struggles have defined him, but have not overcome him.
Owning a safari company has been a dream since his childhood, and he is humbled by the opportunity that so many travelers and friends have given him throughout the years.
Reggie’s Travelosophy: “We are all passing in this world – people, animals, countries, environments – we are all travelers who share a journey on Earth.”
